"I have been diagnosed with cancer, what should I eat?"

In this blog I will try to respond to your questions by first addressing basic nutritional parameters and in particular cancer-preventtive nutrional guidelines.

One of the most important principles I try to teach my patients is that our bodies are constantly in a state of change, rebirth and growth.  As such, you need to provide a constant supply of ingredients which allows the body to heal and rebuild itself.

Take a moment and let the following sink in: (Regeneration implies Turnover time)

Our cones and rods in our eyes regenerate every 24 to 48 hours

Our lining of the intestines regenerate every 3 days

Our lung alveoli regenerate every 8 days

Our tongue taste buds regenerate every 10 days

Our bone cells regenerate every 2 weeks

Our skin regenerates every ~30 days

Our fingernails grow at a rate of 0.1 mm/day

Our toenails grow at a rate of 1mm/month

Our red blood cells regenerate every 4 months

Our liver regenerates every 8 months

Our nerves regenerate every 7-8 months

Fat storage cells regenerate every 8 to 10 years

Therefore, we do need to consider how and what we eat.  One of the greatest pleasures is one derived from eating.  How amazing would it be if we can combine that pleasure with the knowledge of what we eat and how it can allow us to regenerate.

"Let thy food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food" (Hippocrates)

I truly believe that this was always meant to emphasize the importance of nutrition to prevent or potentially cure disease.

Please post your questions and comments.  I will address them to the best of my knowledge as well as available scientific data to support the advice given.
